Basketball season will
be here soon. If you are receiving this e-mail, your son or daughter is signed
up for Basketball at Burlington Catholic Athletics this year. As this is
our first year with Burlington Catholic Athletics, the athletic board has
decided to leave 8th grade teams as St Charles and St Marys
teams,
but all other grades going forward will be a combined schools team. I
have attached the notes from last weeks basketball meeting, if you
missed them.
SPIRIT WEAR AND SHOOTING SHIRTS (Deadline is October 9)
Many of the teams have
returning coaches from last year, but if you are interested in helping coach
please contact our basketball director, Troy Loos, if you have not already.
If you coached last year and I have not contacted you, please let me
know ASAP. I want to make sure I have a
complete contact list for coaches. We
have enough players for 14 teams between all grades, girls and boys. We have entered the following teams in the
league this coming year.
5th Girls: 2 teams (Same
Division) – 17 girls
6th Girls: 1 team (Large
Division) – 12 girls
7th Girls: 1 team (Large
Division) – 10 girls
8th Girls-St Marys: 1
team (Large Division) – 9 girls
5th Boys: 2 teams (Same
Division) – 14 Boys
6th Boys: 2 teams (Same
Division) – 14 Boys
7th Boys: 2 or 3
teams (Large and Small Divisions) – 20 Boys (may have 4 additional boys from St
Thomas-Waterford)
8th Boys-St Charles:
1 team (Middle Division) – 7 Boys
8th Boys-St Marys: 1
team (Middle Division) – 8 Boys
Parents of each athlete
will be required to volunteer for some gym duties at a few home games.
This schedule will be sent out after games schedules are created.
We are part of Parkview Parochial League. Visit their website www.parkviewparochial.org
for game schedules, league rules, game results and directions to gyms. This league contains more than 30 schools in
the Milwaukee area. There are no new rules this year from last
year. We will have 6 minute quarters with
normal clock stoppages. The girls and 5th
and 6th grade boys will use a 28.5 size ball.
Teams at the 5th
grade level are all one league, and they will be divided with even talent (as
best as we can). The conference will attempt to make localized divisions
of the league to avoid extensive travel.
At the 6th grade and above levels the conference will have multiple divisions for different experience leveled
teams. There may be 2 or 3 divisions in each girls and boys for each grade. Teams will be divided after the
first week of practice.
The Parkview
scheduler is taking care of all the scheduling of both leagues.
Scheduling is going on right now. League games will be on
weekends. Saturday home games will be played at St Charles gym. Games
times on Saturday will be 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30. Sunday home games will be played at Catholic Central gym. Games times on Sunday will be 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:30, 4:30, 5:30. Everyone will have to 12 league games. Teams are also
offered up to 2 tournaments (sponsored by the athletic board). These
tournaments are the responsibility of the team coach to schedule.
There will be 2
practices a week. Due to sharing gym time with Catholic Central, there is
not a lot of premium gym time for practice. Grades with multiple teams
will be required to practice together. We are also working with other
local schools to find alternate gym times for practices.
Please find forms and our
athletic handbook on the website. All students are required by the
Milwaukee Archdiocese to complete these forms prior to your first practice.
WE ARE ALSO IN NEED OF MORE
VOLUNTEERS FOR THE ATHLETIC BOARD. Many of the board members have been
leaving due to the children graduating from grade school. So please
consider this; as we cannot have an athletics program without this board.
We meet once a month. Please let me know if you are interested.
Again, feel free to contact me
with any questions.
